Tim’s 52 Jamz for 52 Weeks
January 7th, 2010 | 9:30 am est |
The year-end season of lists is mercifully nearing a close, but before it slips away, I wanted to make sure my fave raves were shoved down your collective throats one more time! This time it’s my favorite songs of 2009. I was trying to get the list down to a reasonable number and having a cuss of a time doing it when suddenly I had one of those rare flashes of inspiration (possibly misguided inspiration, but still…) and decided I had enough really, really good songs to build the thing into 52-song list. A song a week! Exciting, right? Looks as if I liked lots of noisy pop, pretty pop, dancefloor groovers, slick new wave, hip hop jamz and borderline novelty songs…pretty predictable, true, but it kept me happy all year long. What more can you want from music? Anyway, click through to see what my “year in songs” sounded like.

it’s like i’m reading a list that i wrote and forgot about! I Luv amg, my anti-pitchfork
Island by the xx is a great song, i just love it. I love it the whole list, it will be a hell of a party when i do one. But i still don’t get it the whole anti-pitchfork too. It’s not like they’re the totally opposite or something. AMG is the best one, but sure pitchfork is good too. They’re too indie and everything, but they sure get things right most of the time. I don’t trust them reviewing mainstream music, but they sure know a lot about the indie world. Same as AMG, they know a lot of indie too, the only difference is that they know how to review mainstream artists too. They are so great, they just know how to review everything from everywhere. But please, pitchfork is still good. They do mess things up some times, but i have seen some greats reviews over there. They might not have the same strong arguments as AMG, or be sarcastic as Robert Christgau is sometimes. But they are still better than many others. What about Rolling Stone’s “reviews”, 3 lines, 20 words ? And Entertainment Weekly ? And NME the world’s biggest hype machine, they create the hypes every day, some delivers others doesn’t. And there are many others worse.
I like Pitchfork and i won’t deny: i am always checking that website, their reviews and everything. The same way i also check out Slant, Spin and every other reviewer at Metacritic. I used to check Stylus & Blender before they closed. But the only one who gets right 90% of the time, and the only one which i check at least 5 times a day, and commenting is AMG, they are just the fusion of every little thing that made the others great. They awesome and is the best team on the net . I just won’t deny pitchfork or anyone’s merits, they’re good too, at least for me.
We’re really impressed. Honestly.
But what’s Kelly Clarkson doing on your list? Some people might even have heard that song.
I do like pitchfork for the news, i just can’t stand all the sophomoric writing and posing. This list has all my jams (magic kids AND keri hilson) and no dirty projectors
I do agree with you perc about all the sophomoric writing and posing. I like them and sometimes that bothers me too. Like i said, some reviews are awesome, others are just bad, really bad, so bad they don’t even argument why the album is great or not, that irritates me sometimes. The same way Rolling Stone: rating albums 3 or 3 and a half stars, and when you read the review it seems like you’re reading a 4 or even 5 star review. AMG is the best, they certainly know our jams, and can make the best mix of mainstream music and indie. I just love them, i don’t know if they can read our comments, but i love them. There was a time that me and Heather Phares used to share the same opinion about every album, and i secretly had a crush on Tim Sendra, them i realize that i loved him because he makes every party i do successful, at least the music area (we always have a problem with the drinking area).
