The Strokes are still working on their fourth album, originally planned for a late 2009 release. Grammy-winning producer Joe Chiccarelli (U2, Bjork, Beck) is overseeing the recording sessions, which began this week in New York. This will be the band’s first studio effort since 2006’s First Impressions of Earth, as well as the first since frontman Julian Casablancas released his solo debut, Phrazes for the Young, last year. Pete Wentz may never play with Fall Out Boy again, according to the bassist’s recent blog post. “As far as I know Fall Out Boy is on a break,” he wrote. “As much as I don’t have a solo project, I also can’t predict that I’d ever play in Fall Out Boy again.” FOB had announced its decision to go on hiatus last November, and frontman Patrick Stump recently announced “I’m not in Fall Out Boy anymore” during an interview with Spin. In other hiatus news, the innovative hip-hop label Def Jux will be taking an extended break. Although not an official termination, the hiatus does seem to signal changes to the decade-old label, including the stepping down of founder and artistic director EL-P. [Definitivejux.net]
The three members of Le Tigre wrote and produced several songs for Christina Aguilera’s fourth English studio album, Bionic. Goldfrapp, Ladytron, and former Zero 7 vocalist Sia Furler also appear on the record, which is slated for an April release. [Brooklynvegan.com]
Paul Simon is allegedly headlining Bonnaroo, although the official lineup won’t be unveiled until next Tuesday. If confirmed, Simon will perform along with top-tier groups like the Flaming Lips, who are slated to play Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety. News of the iconic singer-songwriter’s appearance at the upcoming Tennessee festival accompanies rumors of a performance by another famous Paul: Sir Paul McCartney. [Livedaily.com]
