Hot Damn Jamz 37: Where Are Dorkenkork & the HairShirtz?
December 4th, 2009 | 11:00 am est |
This week we’ve got no time for snappy intros, no time to come up with any witty banter or half-serious boasts. There’s really not a moment to spare, such is our determination to get the piping hot jams right into your grubby little mitts. So we won’t talk about girl group-jacking weirdos we found. Or the sweet Canadian folk-poppers we dug up. We won’t bore you with how excited we are that bands are re-discovering the sounds of the UK Riot Girl scene. Nope, none of that. Straight on to the jamz!
Shannon and the Clams
We love this scuffed-up, slightly pervy sounding doo wop/girl group trio. Anyone who lists the both the Shangri-La’s and the Bad Brains as influences has the right idea about music and life!
The Cavalcade
This jangly UK indie poppers likely have many Felt, Hurrah! and June Brides records in their collection.
Wet Dog
It’s about time the Huggy Bear/Lung Leg revival got started.
The Sandwitches
Poorly recorded, extremely hooky 50’s-styled noise ballads from a San Fransisco trio. “Back to the Sea’ is the jam!
Ducktails
We forgot to mention them when they were truly hot a few months ago but better late than never, right? The lovely underwater jams Ducktails have released so far in 2009 are some of the year’s best truly underground sounds.
Le Pigeon
This Tornoto trio sounds like a warm and woody cross between Josh Rouse and late-period Heatmiser and that’s a good thing.
Amylie
This singer/songwriter from Montreal has a nice approach that creeps up on being mainstream radio-friendly but adds just enough weirdness to make it interesting. Plus the songs are damn catchy, even if you don’t know any French.
Oy
This Swiss miss shows off her childlike tendencies over 8-bit beats.
Bang Bang Eche
The Futureheads vs. The Faint, from New Zealand no less!

hey sendra i liked those pigeon guys pretty ok
