Best of the 2009 Hot Damn Jamz: Dave’s Picks
December 23rd, 2009 | 1:00 pm est |
Dave’s off enjoying some holiday eggnog so we’re going to intro his picks for you. Looks like his top jamz are predictably awesome. Some shoegazers, some refined British pop, some noise, and some good old indie rock make for a nice range of bands that hit big in 09 and will continue to impress in 2010. Not to mention Happy Burger and their ridiculously awesome song “Pizza All Around.” Dave did a fine job this year picking the jamz. Let’s hear it for the boy!
Bibio
Prolific Englishman Stephen Wilkinson dazzled us with his stunningly good indie electronic folk, releasing 2 LPs and 2 EPs in 2009.

Dum Dum Girls
Lovely garage-y pop songs amidst a wash of static.
The Jamboree
Justin LaBo creates dreamy shoegaze pop reminiscent of JAMC and Magnetic Fields.
Happy Burger http://www.myspace.com/happyburgertheband
Pizza Around the World…Single of the year? Yes, please! Make that a large.
Your Twenties
Catchy melodic UK pop in the vein of Field Music.

Deer Or the Doe
Portland quintet that brought the earnest indie rock this year.
The Focus Group
More fantastic electronic-acoustics that conjures up a dreamy, experimental ‘60s easy-listening experimental sound.
Drunkdriver
Sounds like you scraped your face on the concrete again. Hit and run in NYC.
Animal Hospital
Kevin Micka hypnotizes with his mix of ambient electronics, beats and subtle string strumming.

Interesting Animal Hospital video. Will have to check his stuff out. Bibio gets better with every listen.
