Juan GabrielLatin singer-songwriter Juan Gabriel and pop duo Calle 13 were the primary focus of the 2009 Latin Grammy Awards last night. Gabriel, who performed live for over 40 minutes, received the award for Person of the year, while Calle 13 took home 5 awards including Album of the Year. [Billboard.com]

On the heels of releasing his debut solo album, Strokes-frontman Julian Casablancas is purportedly preparing a laser light show for his upcoming live UK tour. Casablancas told NME that he is planning on delivering a “Pink Floyd” inspired show to his UK fans. Casablancas released the album Phrazes For the Young last month. [NME.com]

Jay-Z performed with U2 last night during the Irish band’s Berlin appearance for MTV’s 16th annual European Music Video Awards. Jay-Z joined U2 for a performance of the band’s classic cut “Sunday Bloody Sunday”. [Stereogum.com]

AFI lead-singer Davey Havok and guitarist Jade Puget are set to release the second effort in the duo’s electronica side-project Blaqk Audio. Having recently released AFI’s 2009 effort Crash Love, Havok and Puget are ready to promote thier sophomore effort Bright Black Heaven after AFI finishes its tour. Blaqk Audio released its debut album Cexcells in 2007. [Billboard.com]

Legendary old-school rappers the Fat Boys are launching a clothing line. Their T-shirts will be available at retailers like Urban Outfitters and Hot Topic soon. The group will also be performing a comeback show in Detroit at an undisclosed time and are working on something called “Fat Boys Weekend,” which will take place in 2010. Sadly, Darren Robinson, aka The Human Beat Box, won’t be performing with them due to his tragic death back in 1995. [HipHopDX]
