Justin Timberlake may play the titular character in “The Green Lantern,” provided he can wrestle away the role from such contenders as Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds. The Warner Bros movie is slated for release is December 2010. [NME.com]

As U2’s 360° Tour gets underway, one environmental group has targeted the band for its energy-using stage setup. “Looking at the 44 concerts, U2 will create enough carbon to fly all 90,000 people attending one of their Wembley dates to Dublin,” says Helen Roberts, a consultant for CarbonFootprint.com. U2 has another 44 concerts planned for 2010, although the band may announce plans to offset such heavy carbon emissions. [Guardian.co.uk]

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest is negotiating a contract extension with the show, having earned roughly $5 million this season for his work on the show. The new “megadeal” with include a hefty pay raise, making Seacrest one of the highest-paid figures in reality television. [HollywoodReporter.com]

Guitar Hero 5 will sport an 85-song set list, including selections from Kings of Leon (”Sex on Fire”), Beck (”Gamma Ray”), Vampire Weekend (”A-Punk”), and Thrice (”Deadbolt”). The videogame will be released on September 1st and is available for pre-order now. [RollingStone.com]

The Pitchfork Music Festival is nearly sold out. The only remaining tickets are confined to Friday’s “Write the Night: Set Lists by Demand” show, which includes performances by Built to Spill, the Jesus Lizard, Yo La Tengo, and Tortoise. [Pitchfork.com]

The Swell Season will release a sophomore album in two months, despite the breakup of bandmates Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. Strict Joy appears on September 29th, featuring a dozen songs that “were recorded last year and document a time of great change and tumult.” [EW.com]
