The SeedsR.I.P. Sky Saxon, singer for the cult classic ’60s garage-rock band the Seeds. Saxon, born Richard Marsh, suffered from “a brief illness” before his death and was in his 60s when he passed. The Seeds’ tough sound — exemplified by their 1967 Top 40 hit “Pushin’ Too Hard — was dominated by Saxon’s snarling, Mick Jagger-esque vocals and helped blaze the trail for punk in the ’70s. Saxon had recently moved to Austin and formed a new band, Shapes Have Fangs, and had planned to spend the summer touring with the California ‘66 Revue. [Associated Press]

Tributes to Michael Jackson, who died yesterday at age 50, are pouring in from around the world, including this obituary from The Los Angeles Times. The results of Jackon’s autopsy are expected today; however, the exact cause of death may not be pinpointed for weeks. In January, it was reported that Jackson planned to leave the rights to the Beatles’ catalog to Paul McCartney. Allmusic Blog’s full tribute to Michael Jackson will run later today. The Dirty Projectors have canceled several dates on their North American Bitte Orca tour after their tour van flipped Wednesday near Detroit, MI en route to Toronto. Fortunately, no one in the band was seriously injured. [NME.com]

In a podcast interview with Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot, Trent Reznor took aim at Chris Cornell — whose album Scream he parodied this April Fool’s Day — again, saying that Cornell’s collaboration with producer Timbaland “was a money grab and when you do that you’re saying to other people that look up to you, it’s okay to do that and it’s not okay to do that.
