R.I.P. Michael Jackson
June 25th, 2009 | 6:51 pm est |
The L.A. Times has confirmed that Michael Jackson died at age 50 Thursday afternoon after arriving at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in a coma. Allmusic Blog will have a full tribute to the King of Pop tomorrow.

While Michael Jackson is certainly the bigger name, I’ll mention that the Seeds’ Sky Saxon passed away today as well.
What if they play THRILLER at his funeral and he comes back to life!?
I’m in shock. I love his music so much.
Spinning “Thriller” in his memory now. I’m so sad.
His impact is incalculable …… Bye Mike
Mike C > Hilarious!
lol @ Mike C
In all seriousness, though, this is a huge loss to entertainment. He will definitely be missed.
I hope that- I now speak for everyone all over the world who feel sad and thinks Micheal Jackson was a very great talent and legend- Micheal Jackson will rest in peace and will be in heaven soon…
He wasn’t just a great actor, showmaker or singer. He influenced kids and andults… So sad that our kids will not know him as we was blessed by his attendence
Sky Saxon died? Holy shit!
At least all the little children of the world are now safe from him. Too wierd for his own good.
(More trolls than I’m used to on the Allmusic blog. Keep it clean fellas.)
The great thing about Jackson is his music is testament enough. No one needs to prove the impact of an artist who had unanimous approval from the entire planet. For all his personal flaws - both minimal and tragic - it takes a nanosecond for “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” to get people on the dance floor. So as long as there ARE dance floors, Michael Jackson will be the king. RIP and bring on the tributes.
Michael no matter what stupid people say, thanks for all the great feelings and songs,we’ll never forget.Rest In Peace.
this news shocks me somehow, wow cant believe he is dead. he was such a awesome musician. i hope he was happy at the end, in the sense that he felt fulfilled as a artist and such.
he will be missed, i hope that people will forget the madness and remember the music, the show, the person..
RIP…
awesome musician?…well ive never seen michael with a musical instrument in his hand… however he was a talanted singer/artist….yes he will be missed buy his fans but quite frankly, who gives a toss…his career was over by the end of the last century…RIP…credit where credit is due i suppose
we will miss you…
I was never a big MJ fan — in fact with my two younger sisters playing his records ad nauseam through my junior high & high school years, I found him pretty annoying.
However, I do have tremendous respect for his vocal style, his talent as an arranger and composer, his gift as a choreographer and dancer. MJ broke down many barriers in entertainment and set a very high bar.
I’m appalled by some of the very hurtful comments I’ve read on this and other forums today. Granted, MJ was not perfect. He was a talented but flawed human being, but every one of us is flawed as well. Like him or not, grant the man his dignity.
My heart goes out to the Jackson brothers and sisters, and to Michael’s three children. May he rest in peace.
Geezis!!! Sky fuckin Saxon died?? That sucks!!!! Oh yeah, and Michael, too.
I was no fan of Jackson’s music, but there is no denying that Billie Jean was a fantastic pop song - perhaps the best ever. For all his alleged personal shortcomings, Jackson was a great musician.
Rock Rushmore is Elvis, Lennon, Dylan and him as far as I’m concerned.
Rest in peace, The King Of Pop ;(
I am truly saddened by this loss of wonderful talent. Thriller was the very first album I had as a kid. This voice of a younger generation made such a mark on culture, music, dance, producing and arranging that the influence is impossible to ignore.
No matter what he did in his personal life, this is not the time or place to hate and disrespect a man who is just an imperfect person like us all.
May he Rest In Peace
We love you Michael
This weirdo was treated like royalty by legions of people. Get a life - he wouldn’t give you the time of day. He was OK, but I was sick of it in the eighties and I’m sick of it now. Now I have to sift through tons of crap on eBay by other weirdos trying to make $$$ from his death. Yeah, it’s a shame someone dies young but he wasn’t doing much anyway. To all the adoring fans that might object to my observation - BITE ME! Listen to good bands like The Jam, The Fall, Captain Beefheart, Steak (Illinois), Group of Individuals, Certain Death, Ford City F**kers, Tim (and Jeff) Buckley, The Heats, Marshall Crenshaw, Blue Cheer, ad nauseam…………too many to list. Even the Beatles and Stones if you’re not adventurous. ANYTHING!
He was a tremendous talent, and he fell from grace pretty hard. I hope he is at peace.
Great Artist. Undoubtably.
The fact that he touched kids (and I’m being subtle)is unforgivable. I mean really. Thats a no-brainer.
By the way Michael was a musician, he wrote most of his music and played guitar….RIP Michael, your life was a blessing to most and the little boy in you that never got to live is free now!
Never met him personally but loved his music!
I’m really really really sad. Rest in peace, Michael.
Even after his death people are talking of him. Some about bad things and many about good things and the legacy he leaves behind. This by itself is a proof of what a Great Man he was and always will be.
Rest in peace.
We will always love you
Michael gave us a lot beautifull music. Thanks!
First I thought it has been a bad joke, something like he is meeting with Elvis, but now… Heavy, well finaly he can rest…
So totally loved his music- soundtrack to my youth…written a blog and having a party at mine to celebrate his songs….

The world’s invited….
RIP - what a talent, and judging by a *few* tired comments, he’s in a better place , and he made here a better place too… for you, and for me…
sky saxon is god!
He’s finally safe from all of the greedy parents who used their children as bait to get at his fortune. Rest in peace Michael. I’m not so sure that the world deserved your artistry. Thiller is one of the best albums of all time.
He will never be forgoten, RIP
One less kiddy fiddler in the world, the songs wern’t bad but then Gary Glitters’ were OK in their time.
Bye bye weird one, don’t hurry back!
YEAH GREEDY PARENTS… Thats why he settled for $22 Million with one of them on the condition that he never speak of it again. I’ll fully grant you he was a target for some, but there was fire when there was smoke n this case and child abuse is up there with murder in my book because the the child in most cases can be destroyed and has to live with it.
I love you michael. :((((((((((( rest in peace
You’re always in my heart
You are not alone
:(((((((((((
Wow Bob Steak, you’re an ass, just because you don’t like him. I love Paul Weller and The Jam, but as much as you would mourn the loss of Weller if he were to die, I am sure you wouldn’t appreciate clowns such as yourself making similar comments. Music is down to taste, and MJ was exceptionally popular and well loved by millions. Just because he’s not your cup of tea, it doesn’t warrant criticism from you toward Jackson or his fans….who are you anyway and what makes you such an authority of what people should and should not listen to. Just another music snob I guess…
No matter what people may say about you, you are a legend and always will be a legend. Rest in peace MJ…..pass the torch “Heal the world make it a better place”..
Hmm, seems that there are always a collection of cretons who for some reason are too locked in their own wise guy phone booths to have an appreciaton for anything or anybody except for who/what they proclaim or like. I won’t waste anymore time on them. I appreciate all things music regardless of genre. No matter what I thought of MJ personally, his talent and contributions should never be forgotten. I have favorites all across the musical spectrum, but I’m not gonna spit venom. No one, not MJ, not Paul Weller, not Sky Saxon is/was perfect, But I sure as hell love a little bit of what they each have/had to offer.
I’m glad that more people have noticed the passing of Sky Saxon in the eight hours since I checked this blog.
Bob Steak loves his whitey music. I guess white is right, hey Meat? Get some funk, idiot.
People judging MJ should keep in mind that he was acquitted of all child abuse charges. Besides, an artist should be judged by what he produced, not by his personality. It’s irrelevant to the music.
I’d agree that many of the bands that Bob Steak mentioned are very good. But if any of the members died, they would get as little attention as Sky Saxon, three lines in the AllMusic blog and no mention on the 6pm news (at least in the US). At their advanced age, not even McCartney or Jagger would rate as much coverage. While Steak pretends to be more musically knowledgeable than the rest of us, he demonstrates the reverse by not recognizing Michael Jackson’s achievements.
MJ was not among my top 50, but not because of a lack of credentials. Any allegations about his personal life are unproven and irrelevant now that he’s dead.
mj when u died on the news that made my heart stop i was so sad that i cryed like now .i love u micheal i’ll allways be with you in my heart ooooooooo xxxxxxxxx
M.J you’ll never walk alone.
R.I.P
Michael Jackson’s impact on world culture can never be measured. Music, comedy, fashion, and more, he truly touched the world. How many people’s existence will influence the world? Man in the Mirror was his most powerful work, and I truly believe he had more work to do on this Earth. I don’t think his death was natural, and someone will have to pay.
I grew up on the music of MJ and this is a horrible loss. I wanted to share a DJ set I did this past weekend in tribute. 80 minutes of music mixed together. I hope you will enjoy. You can listen or d/l here http://www.zshare.net/audio/619901536f44ac78/ if you want a tracklist it’s on my site www.djmoody.commore »
RIP TO THE KING - best to ever do it!
RIP MJ…I can’t believe he’s gone..
I guess we’ll never really know what happened to him in his final hours…I just hope the autopsy gives clarity and closure to the Jackson family..
