The Magnificent Defeat album coverThe death of former Wilco-member Jay Bennett has been ruled an overdose of the painkiller Fentanyl. The coroner investigating the death of Bennett — who was found unconscious in his home on May 24th — announced the finding yesterday. Fentanyl is a drug often prescribed for the treatment of chronic pain. [MTV.com]

Guitarists Jack White, Jimmy Page and The Edge are to appear in an upcoming documentary about the electric guitar. Titled It Might Get Loud, the film is directed by Davis Guggenhiem who previously won an Oscar in 2007 for his documentary An Inconvenient Truth and showcases the work and inspirations of the three artists. New York indie-rockers Alberta Cross have announced the title and tracklisting of the band’s debut album. The album, Broken Side of Time, is available for listening at the band’s Myspace and is set for release on September 21. [NME.com]

Oscar-winning songwriter/director Joseph Brooks was arrested and charged yesterday of assaulting and raping 11 women from 2005 to 2008. Brooks is best known for composing the 1977 Oscar-winning title track to the film “You Light Up My Life,” which he also directed. [NYTimes.com]
