George Harrison - Let It Roll: The Best of George Harrison
George Harrison had two periods of great commercial success, separated by 15 years and two record labels. This extended gap is the chief reason there hasn’t been a career-spanning Harrison collection until 2009’s Let It Roll: Songs By George Harrison, the first-ever disc to gather songs from George’s stints at both Apple and Dark Horse, and only his third-ever hits collection, following 1976’s Beatles-heavy The Best of George Harrison and The Best of Dark Horse, released in 1989 in the afterglow of Cloud Nine’s comeback success.

Jonas Brothers - Lines, Vines and Trying Times
Subscribing to the time-honored practice of striking when the iron is hot, the Jonas Brothers put out Lines, Vines and Trying Times in June of 2009, making it their third album in one year. True, Lines and A Little Bit Longer were separated by a soundtrack to a concert film, but the flood of product is a true reflection of the peak of the group’s popularity, just as how the over-produced, stretched-thin Lines is a reflection of their hectic schedule. Where A Little Bit Longer was built on a strong song foundation, Lines, Vines and Trying Times feels constructed from the outside in, with the concepts coming before the tunes, concepts that all take the Brothers Jonas further away from the fizzy, power pop fun.

Spinal Tap - Back from the Dead
In 2009, when Back from the Dead was released, it was impossible for any listener to not be in on Spinal Tap’s joke, so it’s fitting that this is their first release to play as pure comedy, an album that doesn’t even attempt to pass itself off as a rock record. The concept is this: a reunited Tap — hence the name Back from the Dead — celebrates the 25th Anniversary of This Is Spinal Tap by launching an unplugged (and “unwigged,” meaning Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer do not don the hairdos of Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins, and Derek Smalls) tour, releasing the movie on BluRay and revisiting their old songs in the studio, adding five new songs, and recording “Jazz Oddyssey” for the first time, splitting it into thirds and scattering it throughout the album.
