Led Zeppelin are still planning to record a new album and tour without Robert Plant. Guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones, and drummer Jason Bonham are keen to find a singer to replace Plant who, despite participating in the band’s 2007 London reunion concert, hasn’t expressed interest in the project. New songs from rappers Eminem and 50 Cent were leaked to radio stations recently. While Eminem has yet to announce a release date for his next full-length effort, 50 Cent’s upcoming album Before I Self Destruct is rumored to drop in Februrary. [Billboard.com]
Swedish pop-sensations Peter Bjorn and John have released another new song from their upcoming album. The track, “Nothing to Worry About,” appeared recently on Kanye West’s blog. In December, the band also premiered the video for “Lay It Down.” [Pitchfork.com]
Norwegian pop singer Annie is planning to release the follow-up to her critically lauded 2004 album, Anniemal, in 2009. Despite the lack of a record contract — her deal with Island Records fell apart in 2007 — Annie has apparently recorded over 60 new tracks for the project. [Billboard.com]
Those recent Norwegian Beatles podcast downloads have been removed from the internet. Citing obvious legal reasons, the website Nrk.no removed the popular podcasts, which included all 212 of the Beatles’ songs. [NME.com]
Photographer and musical philanthropist Betty Freeman died of pancreatic cancer on January 3rd. She supported John Cage, Harry Partch, John Adams, Steve Reich, La Monte Young, and other contemporary voices during their careers and threw legendary salons at her Beverly Hills home. She was 87.
