OK, where is the Steinski “What Does It All Mean?” collection? That was one of the most important releases of the year hands down! It needs to be on this list!!!
Good to see Mudhoney. That is a fantastic reissue.
And thanks for reminding me of the A-Square release!
I’ll second Steinski. And what about Can’t Stop It! II: Australian Post-Punk 1979-84? Or the reissue of Touch by The Terminals? This list needs more music from the Southern Hemisphere.
Oh, and OMD’s Dazzle Ships was a necessary reissue, too. Such an underrated record.
The Ardent Records Story unearths gems from the Memphis garage band scene of the 60’s and the Memphis powerpop scene from the early 70’s. While there are alternate versions and unreleased tunes from the mighty Big Star the really pleasant surprise is the uniform excellence of almost all of the songs on this compilation.
This excellent compilation features the usually suspects such as Alex Chilton and Chris Bell but it also spotlights Terry Manning, Jim Dickinson, Cargoe, the Hot Dogs, Tommy Hoehn and the Scruffs.
What about the reissues of Laura Nyro’s “Nested”, or Red Box “The Cirlce and the Square”, or Frazier Chorus’s “Ray”, or The Shop Assistants, or Martha and the Muffins?
Hmm, if you’d only include one of the Burma reissues, Vs. would be the one. Signals, Calls & Marches is great catchy stuff, sure, but Vs. is the seven (out of 5) star album.
