The Beatles’ “Carnival of Light,” a 14-minute experimental piece from 1967, may see the light of day soon if Paul McCartney has his way. McCartney confirmed the track’s existence in a BBC Radio 4 interview; the song was recorded for an electronic music festival but was never officially released. [NME.com]
Nine Inch Nails will welcome Lostprophets’ Ilan Rubin as the band’s new drummer in 2009. Rubin plans to stay with Lostprophets as well as provide the beat for Reznor and company. UPDATE: Rubin is joining NIN permanently and will not be a part of Lostprophets. [XFM.co.uk]

“Carnival of Light” has also been described in more detail as a piece intended for use at a psychedelic light show that was part of a festival, rather than an “electronic music festival.” The piece wasn’t intended for release - or considered releasable - at the time, and the tape is not in the EMI vault — that’s Macca’s property. Glad to see that he is interested in sharing this side of the Beatles now.
Share, hell. He wants to make money from it. If he was to share it, he would put it on a website and let everyone download for free. It’s been 40 years, and I’ve purchased the Beatles music in multiple formats. It’s time for a free one.
Especially since it has limited appeal and will be a difficult listen, much like Rev #9.
