Video Jam of the Day: The Owls - Channel

The Owls 2007 album Daughters and Suns should have been just the ticket to rocket the band out of the indie pop realm and into the more rarefied air of “real” music that you can actually hear on TV and in movies, stuff that you can buy and trade with your friends. The gently heartbreaking and uplifting songs held within should have been drifting through the consciousness of the music world for a year now.

Sadly, the album remains a hidden treasure, a buried gem for lovers of female harmony vocals, innocently sung songs of worldly wisdom, and simple production that doesn’t sound unimaginative but instead sounds just right. “Channel” features the songwriting and vocals of Brian Tighe (who used to front the Hang Ups) and it’s a delightfully chugging slice of lo-power pop that takes off for the heavens when Maria May and Allison LaBonne’s backing vocals come in.
