I always wonder why good r&b/funk albums are almost never praised in these kinds of lists, while we get to hear ad infinitum about every indie rock album ever made. I don't have anything against indie rock, but it would be nice if every once in a while critics left their darlings and safety zones to talk about...I dunno, say Rahsaan Patterson's "Wine And Spirits," for example. A very innovative album, regardless of genre, and yet I've heard next to nothing about it. Sharon Jones is finally getting some serious publicity, which is fantastic, but she's not necessarily doing something "new"--while all these avant-garde neo-soulsters are making truly inspired, incredible records, and often it seems they barely register as a blip. Just some food for thought.

I'm not sure how often you guys get comments on how great of a job you are doing, but for what it's worth, I think AMG sets the standard for music reviews. There are all sorts of other music review sites and publications, but none of them are anywhere near as comprehensive and complete as this site. It's one of the main reasons why despite not always agreeing with the reviews on this site, I do almost always end up respecting what is said by your editors because the site's exposure of music is not confined to a particular genre or time period. Again. Stand up job! You have no idea how many different types of interesting music I have been able to find because of this website's encyclopedia-like reach and ease of use.
