All in the Family

Political dynasties may be all right for the United States, but France’s Nicolas Sarkozy could soon be the head of a musical one. On January 6, Reuters reported that the French Prime Minister may soon marry his current girlfriend Carla Bruni, whose talents as a model and singer are dwarfed by her choices of boyfriends (Donald Trump, Eric Clapton, Kevin Costner, and Mick Jagger). The next day, the news service ran an article in which the French rapper Poison identified Pierre, Sarkozy’s eldest son, as a hip-hop producer. Known as Mosey on his MySpace page, Pierre apparently tried to keep his identity a secret — perhaps because of his father’s history of initiating court cases against French rappers when he was an interior minister.
Though there aren’t too many world leaders with music producing offspring, Sarkozy isn’t alone when it comes to having artistic children. Cecelia Ahern, the best-selling author behind P.S., I Love You and the television series Samantha Who?, is the daughter of Bertie Ahern, Ireland’s Taoiseach (prime minister) since 1997. (Her sister, Georgina, married Westlife singer Nicky Byrne in 2003.)

Uuhhh…where did you read all this?
OK, I’m french, and I REALLY am ashamed of this Sarkozy/Bruni relationship stuff, and quite upset actually, like most people around here, even among Sarkozy voters.
But hey! First of all, Nicolas Sarkozy is President, and not Prime Minister (just like your George Bush, we are NOT English, remember?). Secondly, Carla Bruni’s talent are self-dwarfed, in case you really thought of her as a plain potent artist -why do you think she approached Telephone in the first place? That’s called a bad chameleon). And finally, yes, there have been trials with rappers in France, but two of the most famous ones have taken place under Jacques Chirac’s presidence (NTM and La Rumeur). God hear me! No let that politico-musical dynasty nonsense happen! Pleeeaaaase!
